During December I had the opportunity to do several family sessions, but my favorite session ever is below. It is of the most amazing family in the world (and just because I am part of it, does not mean I am biased :P). I was so excited that everyone was willing to take some time right after church on Christmas to grab some quick photos.

This year our family has had some changes: Elizabeth moved to Washington, DC and started working on the Hill, and this fall David started college in Virginia. It has definitely been different without everyone home so I was so excited that we were all home again for Christmas. Below are some of my favorites...

Maggie & Will

I was so excited when Maggie contacted me to take some pictures of her and her husband and their two chocolate labs, Louis and Buster. Maggie is so sweet and I was glad to get some more time with her while doing their pictures. The morning we met for the pictures it had been raining and was still drizzling, but Maggie and Will were such troopers and despite the weather we got some really great pictures. This was my first photo shoot with dogs and it was quite an experience. The dogs were a little excited but in the end behaved themselves and I am very happy with the end result. Also, have to say that I loved Maggie's outfit and the bright color against the somewhat dreary day. Below are some of my favorites from their shoot. :)

Pumpkin Carving

Ahem, David, Andrew and Liz...I was going to wait and post this tomorrow with it being Halloween and all but I heard some people were impatient to see updated photos and what you missed out on...so your loving sister is posting these now. And you are all missed and loved. :)

A few days ago a bunch of people met in the gym of our church to carve pumpkins. Jo found some nice sized pumpkins and the boys were so excited to help pick out the carving patterns. We had apple cider and cookies and just enjoyed hanging out.

Love the expression on Josh's face...I don't think scooping out the inside of the pumpkin was his favorite part.

Baby Charlotte:3 months

Last month I was able to do baby Charlotte's 3 month pictures and I have to say that Charlotte is one stylish little girl :) Christina had so many cute outfits and accessories all ready for her pictures. Charlotte is such a cutie and normally very happy and smiley. The shoot started out with Charlotte a little less than happy, but we managed to capture some of her happy personality, especially after she had a quick nap. :) Below are some of my favorites from her shoot.

Lena: For Fun

Lena is going to college in Wisconsin but I was so glad she was able to come and spend the Summer with her sister's family here in Florida. It was so great to hang out with her and continue our friendship from summers' past. I call Lena my "almost twin" because we can be so alike (scary, I know!) and we were born less than 24 hours apart. Of course, I am the older one :P Before Lena headed back to school we spent some time taking her pictures...we had a great time and got some great photos.

Rachel & Michael are Married!

Back in July I had the privilege of being able to document Rachel and Michael's beautiful wedding. Rachel and I started working together in January and have really enjoyed watching her and Michael's relationship grow. Rachel is a beautiful person both inside and out and has become a wonderful friend. It was so fun to hear all about her plans leading up to her wedding and then seeing it all come together. :)

Blueberry Picking!

Yesterday, we had a spontaneous family time and went blueberry picking! What started out as Jo, Josh, and I going to the U-pick Farm soon turned into the whole gang. As the news spread so did the group and it was definitely the more the merrier!

We had such a great time soaking up the sun, spending time together, and of course picking (and sampling) the blueberries!

Inside the Capitol Building

While in DC we were able to go on a tour of the Capitol building. It was great to learn so much about our Nation's history and get some pictures without people crowding the view. And now finally (after 2 months) here are the pictures from inside the Capitol.

Washington, DC Teaser

Last week my family and I had the privilege of going to Washington, DC to celebrate the swearing in of Congressman Daniel Webster. After working so hard on the campaign it was incredible to finally see the sign on the wall and know that it was official. While we were there we spent some time sightseeing and of course I was in heaven with all of the incredibe architecture and photo opportunities around me. I took way too many pictures and am slowly trying to go through them all. But for now below is a teaser from one of my walks at night. I love how this picture turned out and is one of my favorite from our trip.

Life is Precious

Tonight I heard a powerful testimony on life. I have heard this example before but once again it hit home. Life is valuable, life is not something to be taken for granted, life is precious.

Senator Daniel Webster held up a crisp fifty dollar bill and asked who wanted. Hands went up everywhere. Then he crumpled it up and asked if anyone still wanted it - they did. After that he proceeded to throw the crumpled bill on the ground and step on it. And you know what, people still wanted it because it was still worth fifty dollars. It didn't matter what the bill looked like it was still valuable. He then proceeded to relate that bill to life. Some people are whole - they are like that crisp fifty dollar bill. Others are hurt and crumpled and some have been stepped on and dirtied. But they are all still valuable. They all still have great worth.

I first heard that analogy on the radio years ago when Daniel Webster was fighting to save the life of Terri Schiovo. She couldn't do anything for him but that didn't mean her life wasn't valuable or worth fighting for. And tonight when he said it again, it spoke to my heart. Because life, every life, is valuable - life is precious.

On April 5, 2010 my big brother officially joined the Marines and headed off to BootCamp. I cannot say how proud I am of him and his desire to serve our Country. For as long as I can remember, this has been one of his dreams. He grew up playing with GI Joes and loved reading spy and war stories. Roughly 2 weeks into bootcamp on Parris Island he was severely injured. He broke two of the bones in his leg and ended up having to have surgery. He was taken off of Parris Island and to the Naval Hospital for the surgery which meant he was allowed to have visitors. So our family drove up one Sunday morning and spent the day with him. It was soo great to see him and hear his stories. Although he is being medically discharged, I cannot say how immensely proud I am of him and his commitment and dedication to serving our Country. I love you bro!

The Webster Family

My family has known the Webster family for just about as along as I can remember. We used to attend the same church and were in his Sunday School class. They homeschooled their kids and our family homeschooled. We took piano lessons from the same teacher. And Senator Webster was also kind enough to allow me to use him as a reference to get my first job.

Senator Webster served in the Florida Legislature for 28 years. He was Speaker of the Florida House before moving to the State Senate where he was Majority Leader before being term limited out. He is a true statesman and not a career politician. And that is why I was so thrilled when last month Senator Daniel Webster announced that he is running for Congress. Florida's 8th Congressional District is one of the top Congress races to watch in the Nation and I am confident that Daniel Webster will do an amazing job representing the citizens of Florida.

I was so happy to be able to shoot some quick family photos for them. Their oldest daughter Elizabeth got married this weekend so after the rehearsal we did a mini photo shoot. The Websters were super great to work with and extremely gracious, especially since I was running late due to shuttle launch traffic. So without futher ado...

My Favorite Grads: Seniors Session

I was homeschooled all my life. I loved being homeschooled. I am so proud of all the Mom's out there that homeschool their kids and all of the work they put into it - it is not an easy task. On Friday night, the Calvary Baptist Church Homeschool Group had their graduation ceremony. There were four seniors that graduated and they are my favorite grads. Of course, I am slightly biased...one of them was my brother David, Kelsey and Deven who you'll probably recognize from their earlier senior session and then Brittany. These four have known each other for years and are all great friends. So we got together for some fun pictures of them before they graduated.

These guys are the best! When I pointed to an old garage and asked them to pose in front of it, they didn't even blink :)

Last Saturday I met up with one of my neighbor's daughter, Leah. Leah was so much fun to photograph and this is one of my absolute favorite Senior Sessions to date. Erik: Senior Session

I can feel it in the air, graduation time is almost here! I have had so much fun doing several Senior Sessions in the past month. Erik's session was no exception. Last weekend, Erik was down from Pennsylvania visiting some friends and I was very happy when he asked if we could do his photos while he was in town. We met up at Fowler's Grove in Winter Garden for some fun photos. It was great catching up and hanging out. Congratulations on your graduation, Erik.

My first 5k

I can hardly believe it has been almost three weeks since I participated in my first 5k. Although I didn't run the entire way it still felt incredible to cross the finish line and the weather was absolutely beautiful for running.

Kelsey and I had been running together for a while to prepare for the 5k, but something came up last minute that prevented Kelsey from actually running the race with me. I missed Kelsey being my running partner, especially since she keeps me going when I start getting tired. About half way through the race one of the other participants who had been going at about the same pace and I decided to finish it together.

My mom came along for the ride and to cheer my on - thanks Mom! She took a few pictures during the race and one of me after I had cooled down a little bit. No make-up and kind of a sweaty mess, but oh so happy to have finished it :)

Deven & Kelsey: Senior Session

I had so much fun hanging out with Deven and Kelsey for their Senior Session. Last week I had the privilege of doing a photo session for the Kelly Family. Our families have known each other for years - ever since they moved into our neighborhood. Ethan, the youngest boy, is heading off to go and work on a farm for a year, and so we got some updated family photos before he left. It was a really great time, and Elyse did an awesome job organizing the shoot and their outfits. And although some of the boys gave her a hard time about some of her artistic locations, we all managed to have fun and not get run over :)

The One Mile Mark

Last week I accomplished the half mile, today I reached the one mile marker. However, true confession is I didn't make the whole mile without a short walking break. Nevertheless, to me it is still an amazing accomplishment and now that I have had a chance to catch my breath and cool down, I feel amazing! For a long time it's been one of those things that I wanted to do. It is amazing what you can accomplish when you list your goals and tell others or sign up for a race :)

Three weeks from today is the 5k at Valencia Community College. I am looking forward to pressing on this week with my training and prep for the race.

The 1/2 Mile Mark

So exactly on month from today I am going to be particiapting in Valencia Community College's 5k race. Back after the Dane Sander's workshop in Jacksonville, I re-committed to running the race. I started training at least 5 times a week but then this last week I fell off the bandwagon. I missed Thursday through Saturday and definitely didn't want to get up and run this morning. So I hit snooze a few times, before I finally forced myself out of my nice, warm bed and into my running shoes.

I stretched for a little bit and then did something I haven't done in a very long time - I ran a half mile without stopping. I couldn't believe it. I honestly didn't think it was possible. For the past two weeks I have been stuck at about 3/10ths of a mile and while I've been walking a 2 mile route most days and running intermittently, I couldn't seem to get past running 3/10ths of a mile at one time. But today I broke the barrier and it felt amazing! I know I can run the 3.1 miles.

My goal is to break the 1 mile marker on Saturday! Race day, here I come!

Happy Valentine's Day!

Wow. The last few days have been such an incredible, lifechanging experience for me. When I signed up for the Jacksonville FastTrack Photographer's Roadshow workshop, I had no idea what was in store for me.  I will be blogging a recap of the workshop later on, but for now here is a little of what I learned.

One of the things that Dane really helped me understand is the concept of being fully committed instead of just "trying".  It has been so easy for me to say I am trying to become a professional photographer, trying to start my own business, trying to run a 5k, trying, trying, trying. But trying isn't going to accomplish my dreams.

So from now on, I am fully committed - all in. And if I fail, I might as well do it gloriously and know that I was fully devoted to it and did everything in my power to make it reality.

I am a part time student at Valencia Community College working on my business degree.  On March 21st they are having a 5k race. Well I have been "trying" to get in shape for some time and I thought this would be a great motivater for the new year. But wouldn't you know that before the workshop I had already decided in my mind that I would just be walking it. But thanks to Dane's encouragement and talk,Ii decided to go all out and actually run it.

So yesterday after work I ran/walked 2 miles and did the same thing again today. I am slowly transitioning from the walking to the running, but am confident that when March 21st rolls around I will run the race. My plan is to walk/run 5 days a week. I am still hammering out the details, but plan on keeping track of my progress here on my blog.

More on the workshop and my life later, but for now I will end with a picture of the super hot couple that modeled for us on Wednesday. And I just have to add that Amanda's shoes are ah-mazing!

Jacksonville PUG meeting with Dane Sanders and Scarlett Lillian

So I am sitting in the amazing Hotel Indigo in Jacksonville after an amazing Pictage User Group meeting with Dane Sanders hosted by the fabulous Scarlett Lillian. From tonight's meeting I know I am going to be in for an awesome next few days at the Fast Track Roadshow Workshop.

Dane challenged us to find out who we reallly are and to stand out in the crowd; to not let my fear of failure or the future limit my potential. And because he insisted a committment is essential if I really want to change and implement what I heard, I decided to reboot my computer and post something.

I am looking forward to an awesome week and hopefully discovering myself more fully and how photography and it are interrelated.

Heidi & Michael: Wedding

It has been so much fun to watch Heidi and Micheal on their way to marriage. I first met Heidi when she was interviewing for a job. After that our paths crossed briefly at an event or two. I first met Michael when she brought him along as her guest for a political dinner. Heidi works for Rep. Eisnaugle and Michael works for Sen. Gardiner so I would see them from time to time at legislative events. I was so thrilled to hear about their engagement. I was so thrilled to be able to shoot their engagement session in September and then join Heidi and her girls at the salon to start off the big day. Below are some of my favorites!

This afternoon we did a family pumpkin carving time. It was such a blast hanging out in the kitchen and dining room area talking...laughing...just having fun together as a family. Josh was so funny to watch scooping out the pumpkin innards. It was not his favorite part but he was just too cute doing it! Every time I see the pictures of his face all squinted up in disgust, I start laughing all over again! Josh and Liz teamed up to make a traditional Jack-O-Lantern face. Sam and Joanna teamed up and were quite the team. The now famous quote: "There are no mistakes in pumpkin land" is a result of their team work. They did manage to pull of the "scary" pumpkin face as well as a spider and their signatures. Daniel decided to do his solo, while my Mom and David were a team. Preparing for the National Bible Bee has been an all consuming activity lately and so my Mom decided to carry that theme into pumpkin land as well. My Dad and I teamed up and had so much fun showing off our loyal support of Iowa's football team. After we finished carving and cleaning up the huge mess we made, we put candles inside the pumpkins and turned out the lights to get the full effect of their glory. :)

Bailey and Bear Hugs

Bailey was my constant companion and friend. On those first days and nights after my sister left to teach in Taiwan for a year, I would wipe my tears in his fur. He went with me everywhere. He went with me when I was helping take care of Aunt Muriel. During the long days and nights I spent at the Assisted Living Facility or in the hospital room helping take care of Aunt Muriel, he was by my side. When I was feeling sick I would curl up with my blanket, pillow and teddy bear. Every night, I would fall asleep with him tucked under my arm. Until the sad day that I lost him.

We were on a family road trip in May to Iowa and then stopping in Nashville, TN for a family conference on the way home. I had been feeling sick on the drive from Iowa to Nashville and didn't realize that he was gone until we were on our way home from Nashville. As soon as I realized he was gone we made a frantic call to the hotel, but to no avail. Bailey was gone.

I eventually got used to going to sleep without looking for Bailey. Life moved on, but I still missed my little bear. He was so cute, and soft, and cuddly. And then my Grandma died and I wished I could bury my face in his fur and cry.

My parents flew to Iowa for the funeral and when they got back my Mom said she had a surprise for me. She had been talking to one of her neices in Iowa and noticed she had this adorable little teddy bear she was playing with. As they were talking about it, it began to look more and more familiar and she realized it was my teddy bear, Bailey! It had fallen under one of the beds in Iowa and since we left really early in the morning, I had somehow missed it. I was so happy to be reunited with Bailey and that night he fit perfectly under my arm as I fell asleep.

I think God knew that I needed an extra bear hug during that hard time. With the unexpected passing of my Grandma, I was reminded of how short and frail life really is. I know my Grandma is in Heaven and happy, but I miss her and am glad for my extra teddy bear hugs.

Goodbye Grandma

Yesterday afternoon we received a call from my Grandpa in Iowa. He called with some very sad news. My dear Grandma had fallen on the back steps, hit her head and died. It was all so sudden. It is still hard to believe that she is really gone. Although I am happy that she is in Heaven resting in the arms of Jesus and free from pain, my heart is heavy and there is a void that only she can fill.

Clarine E. Tyrrell, 82, of Manchester died Friday, September 18, 2009 at her home.

Clarine E. Wall was born July 5, 1927 in Marfa, Texas the daughter of Floyd & Alice (Vollmer) Wall. Clarine graduated with a BS, RN degree from the University of Iowa and had worked in her earlier years at St. Luke's Hospital, Duluth, MN, UIHC, and Delaware County Memorial Hospital. She was active in her community where she was a member of the United Methodist Church, board member of Good Neighbor Home, past president & circle chairman for United Methodist Women, Hospital Auxillary & Iowa Medical Society Auxillary. Clarine enjoyed reading, baking, volunteering and traveling but was most committed to her family, friends and church.

Survivors include her husband of 60 years, Dr. John Tyrrell; Children, Clark Tyrrell (Sue) of Manchester, Greg Tyrrell (Jenny) of Winter Garden, FL, Gary Tyrrell of Iowa City, Mike Tyrrell of Manchester & Sara Riehl (Tom) of Johnston, IA; Grandchildren, Adam (Brittany), Jessica, Andrew, Elizabeth, Abigail, Joanna, David, Daniel, Samuel and Joshua; 3 great grandchildren, Faith, Reece & William; Sisters, Celeste Opfell (James) of Mayfield Heights, OH and Lorene Wetzel of San Jose, CA.

She was preceded in death by her parents, daughter Kathleen Joan Tyrrell and brother-in-law, Vincent Wetzel.

A visitation will be held from 9:00 -- 11:00 AM Monday at the United Methodist Church, Manchester with a Celebration of Life at 11:00 AM with Rev. Roger Henry officiating. Inurnment will be in Oakland Cemetery, Manchester.

In January, my grandparents had visited Florida for a football bowl game. We had such a great day with grandma at the hotel while my dad and grandpa went to the game. We played games, Hot Hoops, went for a walk, took the kids to the pool, snacked on vanilla flavored almonds, ate peanut butter and jelly sandwiches, and just hung out and talked.

This summer my family drove up to Iowa to visit them and celebrate their 60th Anniversary. I am so grateful for that time with her. She shared about her life growing up and let us see part of her past.

She was loved by her husband of 60 years, her 2 sisters, 5 children, 10 grandchildren, 3 great-grandchildren, and countless number of other family and friends.

I have been so blessed to have such a wonderful Grandma. Although we were often separted by distance, we share some amazing memories, memories that I will treasure for the rest of my life. Last night, I went through some pictures of our recent times together and was so grateful that I had carried my camera along.

9/11: May we Never Forget

September 11. A day that will always be remembered. A day that will always hold special meaning. A day that will always make me want to cry. A day to remember the greatness of our country. A day to remember the sacrifice and service so many have dedicated over the years. A day to come together as a Nation. A day to fly the flag. A day to bow our heads in silence and prayer. A day to never forget.

This morning, I sat at the desk in my office and flipped on FOX News. They were beginning to replay much of the footage, newscasts, and timeline. Once again, I sat stunned, heartbroken and in tears as they remembered. September 11, 2001. The victims of those flights, the victims in the Towers, the Pentagon, in Shanksville, PA. The families who had lost loved ones, friends. The brace servicemen who raced to their aid. Eight years later, I can still remember standing around our small 13" tv watching it all unfold. The unknown, the fear, the pain, the questions flooding over me. I have watched as America responded and my prayer remains: May we never run. May we never never give up. May we never forget. And may God bless America.

On September 20, 2001, President George W. Bush gave a speech that has stayed with me ever since. Below is an excerpt from that speech.

"Our nation, this generation, will lift the dark threat of violence from our people and our future. We will rally the world to this cause by our efforts, by our courage. We will not tire, we will not falter, and we will not fail.

It is my hope that in the months and years ahead life will return almost to normal. We'll go back to our lives and routines, and that is good.

Even grief recedes with time and grace.

But our resolve must not pass. Each of us will remember what happened that day and to whom it happened. We will remember the moment the news came, where we were and what we were doing.

Some will remember an image of a fire or story or rescue. Some will carry memories of a face and a voice gone forever.

And I will carry this. It is the police shield of a man named George Howard, who died at the World Trade Center trying to save others.

It was given to me by his mom, Arlene, as a proud memorial to her son. It is my reminder of lives that ended and a task that does not end.

Jonna & Steve: Wedding

I had the privilege of meeting and photographing an amazing couple, Jonna and Steve. Jonna was such a beautiful bride and sweet mother. She is fun loving and her joy was contagious. I am so excited for both Jonna and Steve and their new family.

Over the weekend, I had the amazing opportunity of attending WIT! Sinlges Conference/Spiritual Retreat. It was a time of spiritual renewal and rededication of my life to following the Lord. It is so easy to get caught up in the day to day things of life and neglect developing our relationship with Jesus or listen for His voice. I met so many wonderful friends and some of my favorite times were singing to the Lord as a whole group. "Speak, O Lord" has become one of my favorite songs. I sing it all the time: in the shower, driving in the car, walking around the house. It is my prayer.

Speak, O Lord, as we come to You,
To receive the food of Your holy word.
Take Your truth, plant it deep in us;
Shape and fashion us in Your likeness,
That the light of Christ might be seen today,
In our acts of love and our deeds of faith.

LeAnne and Jessica are sisters and friends and totally awesome to photograph. Of course, for starters, I am partial for sisters and the special friendship that ensues from that relationship. When Jessica asked me to take their pictures because they didn't have very many together I was so excited. LeAnne will be a Junior in College this year and Jessica a Freshman. We met up and hung out at Fowler's Grove in Winter Garden for some fun shots. They were both such troopers despite the rain and weather. We ended up with some super cute pictures and I couldn't be more excited. Thank you both so much for being so fun!

I love shoes! As a little girl, I remember only having like 2 or 3 pair of shoes at a time. Tennis shoes, sometimes a pair of black and brown shoes or a pair of penny loafers that could go with anything I wore, or atleast I thought they could. Fashion was never really my forte. But all of that changed when I got a job and my first paycheck and I fell in love with shopping and especially shoes. Today, my closet is overflowing with shoes. I no longer have just one pair of black I think I have closer to 10! Black heels, closed toe as well as peep toe, sandals and flats. I also have some pretty amazing other shoes like the green ones I wore today. I had a little bit of extra time on my hands and thought I'd take a shoe portrait just for fun and because I heart shoes!

The Journey Begins

During my junior year of high school I fell in love…with photography. I never thought I would love photography, in fact it kind of scared me. I can distinctly remember being at a family conference one summer and a family handed me their digital camera and asked me to take a picture. I totally freaked out, I had never to my knowledge taken a picture before. I handed the camera to my sister who was with me and she happily snapped the photo for them. I wish I had taken that picture, I wish I hadn't been so afraid of the unkown.

The year was 2005 and I knew that it was going to be a busy year complete with trips overseas, as well as to Chicago and the Capitol of our nation. Up until that point I had no interest in taking pictures, but I wanted to be able remember the times not just in my mind but with pictures. So I bought my first digital camera – a small point and shoot. And almost from the moment I took it out of the box, I was hooked. I loved it, I loved seeing what I could capture and reveiwing my pictures. I enjoyed it, but never looked any further than my enjoyment. But it wasn’t too long before friends noticed my pictures and told me they liked them and that I should look into pursuing photography. I dismissed them as biased.

And so my journey began. I become the family’s designated photographer, recording special events and setting up the yearly family picture. I upgraded to a newer and nicer point and shoot and would take hundreds of pictures everywhere we went. I always had my camera with me and was always snapping away!

In the Summer of 2006, after graduating from highschool, I went on a Mission Trip to Mexico. It was another life changing experience for me. I love people and I love to travel. We worked in a couple of orphanages and one thing that the kids universally loved was the camera. They were constantly awed by how you could press a button and then turn the camera around and see themselves. Those kids stole my heart and made me want to capture the emotions of life with my camera.

A little over a year later I bought my first dSLR camera: a Canon Rebel XTi. I thought I owned the world! I was so excited, I could finally make the background blurry and do all sorts of cool and creative things that I couldn't do on my point and shoot.

Over the past two years I have learned so much and am so excited to continue pursuing my dream of photography. Throughout the years I have been inspired by pros and amateurs alike to do what you love and take pictures because its what you love to do. So many people have encouraged me and still continue to encourage me in the pursuit of my dreams and for that, I am truly thankful.

God is good

But through it all -the tough times, the trials and temptations, God is there for us and with us. What an encouragement to know that God is always near!

Sisters

A year ago today I was helping my younger sister stuff t-shirts and clothes into 2 black luggage bags. I don't know how many times we packed and unpacked all of her stuff, trying to figure out what was really important, how necessary and how much of her shampoo she really needed to take. I remember crying my eyes out when she was finally packed and on her way to the airport. She was on her way to Taiwan for a whole year...I thought it was eternity.

Joanna has spent the last year teaching English to students over in Taiwan and I am so excited to have her home again! Life just isn't the same when she is gone. Thanks to the internet and amazing technology we were able to keep up with each other and talk in one form or another almost everyday! This last year would not have been as bearable without the likes of Skype, chat and Facebook.

My sister is so amazing and I look forward to more adventures and good times now that she is back in the States. Jo, I think you are the best...I can't wait to have late night chats on the same time zone and in our room, I can't wait to cuddle up and watch the latest chick flick together or let you talk me into some action movie, I can't wait to go shopping together and try new things, to laugh together, to share stories, hopes, memories, dreams.

I am so grateful you are my sister, and that the bond of sisterhood can't be broken or separated just because you were across the Ocean, that it transcends time and space because I know we will always be there for each other.

I love you my sisters and friends!

Wow, I cannot believe that it has been almost two weeks since I had the privilege of Spending a Day with the amazing Scarlett Lillian. Scarlett has such a sweet personality and made me feel like a friend right away. I tend to be a little shy, especially in front of the camera, but Scarlett pulled me out of my shell and ended up with some cute pics of me along the way too! After her photo shoot of me, we went through her workflow and editing process and hung out in her office area chatting about all things photography and answering my questions. The day flew by so fast and she gave me so much great information and helpful hints and tips.

For our photoshoot, we met up with Julianne and Greg and headed to downtown Jacksonville. We ended up with some amazing pictures of this super hot couple - they definitely know how to work it for the camera! You guys rock!

I feel so blessed to have been able to learn from Scarlett and am looking forward to progressing on my photography journey. Scarlett, thank you so much for being willing to share and invest in me and the photography industry. You are an inspiration and super fabulous!

May 19 was the boy's Spring Piano Recital. David, Daniel, Samuel and Joshua all did such a great job! Josh and Sam have been playing for less than a year and this was their second piano recital.

Rachel - Senior

Rachel was so much fun to meet up with for Senior Pictures. She loves to loves to smile, she loves to laugh, and she just loves life! She is super sweet and fun and bubbly, which made taking pictures a pleasure!

STS-125 Shuttle Launch

On Monday, May 11th I was so privileged to attend my first shuttle launch!!! I was so excited and it was a really amazing experience. About 5 minutes before take-off, someone sang the National Anthem, and sitting on the bleachers along the coast looking at the shuttle with the flag flying in the breeze was one of those things you never forget. It reminded me of how proud I am to be an American and made me tear up just a tad.

This Saturday, June 6th, Jennifer Berry and Garret Stevenson will be getting married. A couple weeks back I had the privilege of photographing her bridal shower. Everyone was so happy and excited and it was just a really fun time!

Wow! I can hardly believe that today is already April 1, that 3 months are already gone in 2009! It seems like January 1 was just yesterday and I was mapping out my goals and plans for the new year. Making a check list for photography, setting goals. As I look back over the last 3 months, I haven't accomplished a whole lot. College classes have kept me pretty busy and look like they will continue to occupy my free time for the next month. I did buy a box of business cards but so far, I haven't passed any out or had the nerve to approach people.

On July 1, I do not want to look back on the next three months and wonder where they have gone. I want to be able to see where I have been and what I have done. I want to be able to trace with my finger the progress I have made as a photographer not just over the next three months, but during the rest of the year too.

So in the next three months I will:

Read "FastTrack Photographer"
Take the pDNA
Buy and begin learning CS4 and Lightroom
Pass out all 100 business cards

On Saturday, I had the privilege of meeting up with Phyllis Helton of A Picture of Life (http://apictureoflife.com/). Phyllis and I had sent several emails back and forth and then talked briefly on the phone Thursday night, but it was a pleasure to finally meet her in person. She is so sweet and we were laughing and talking like old friends in no time. I followed her around during the Family Shoot she did, to get a sense of her style and how she operates. It was a beautiful morning and the family was so great. After the shoot, we sat around and talked about all things photography.

I am really looking forward to shooting a wedding with her on April 18 and learning and talking through some of my different photography questions!

Inspiration

I have been so inspired and encouraged by reading through the amazing Jasmine Star's old photography blog (http://www.jasminestarphotography.blogspot.com/). What I love about her old blog is that not only is it a true story, but its an honest description of the beginning of her journey to become a professional photographer and how she went from Beauiful Bride to Fabulous Photographer.

Reading her blog is like reading a good book. You become friends with the main characters, you feel their pain, laugh with them, you cheer when they succeed. You join them on their journey, even if your only along for the ride and invisible to them.

For quite some time I have had a dream, a dream to one day become a professional photographer, specializing in weddings because I love love. But up until just recently I have been hesitant about letting that dream sprout wings and fly. To be perfectly honest, I am afraid of heights. But I'm also afraid of being laughed at, rejected, and ultimately failing.

But I am determined to not let the fear of failure keep me from at least attempting to accomplish that dream. To turn that dream, that aspiration into so much more tangible, into reality. I don't know where it is going to lead me, where I will end, but I am excited about the journey!

So I am arming myself with determination, goals, and an action plan. Well so far the action plan only includes posting pictures for critique on the fabulous PhotographyMentor.com website, reading FastTrack Photographer AND facing myself and the pDNA. Studying Kevin Kubota's BootCamp Book and researching websites and how to go about buying my own domain.

I bought my first "official" photography business cards, so now I just need to get the courage to pass them out. Courage - sometimes I wish it was sitting on the shelf just waiting to be put in your pocket and travel with you wherever you go.

The road ahead is going to be full of potholes and unfortunately, I'll probably take a tumble or two, but I intend to get up and continue on and whoever wants to join me on the journey is more than welcome. :)

So I realize I am about 2 weeks early to say that Spring has sprung, but here in Florida it definitely has! The other day, as I was doing some shopping at Wal-Mart I came across the most beautiful bright pink tulips, and some oh so cheery sunflowers.

An Excellent Source of Happiness

So I must make a true confession: I love McDonalds! I love McDonald's breakfast food, I love McDonalds fries and I love McDonald's Chicken McNuggets. In short, I love McDonalds.

So yesterday I was having a hard day and was a little down, skipped lunch, had a headache and a math exam after work. On my way to the Testing Center, I went through a McDonald's drive through and ordered a box of 4 Chicken McNuggets, just the McNuggets for $1.07. I opened the bag and took out the little box and smiled.

It was bright yellow with cheery writing on the front and on one side it read: McNuggets: an excellent source of happiness! I couldn't agree with them more as I ate the warm, tasty nuggets and drove to class. By the time I got there, my headache was gone and I was feeling great and ready to conquer the world of Business Math! It's amazing how much one little box of McNuggets can do for you! So if you need a quick pick me up, don't forget McNuggets are an excellent source of happiness!

This last week has been pretty crazy. I had my top two wisdom teeth out, so I have been kinda out of it and a little bit behind! This week promises to be better :)

In the end of December, I had the privilege of 2nd shooting for Susie and Oliver's wedding. Both Susie and Oliver were just so sweet and pleasant. Susie has several brothers and sisters and the whole wedding and picture shoot was centered on not only Susie and Oliver's love, but the love of her family as well.

Ryan & Kao Nu

In December I had the privilege of helping Rebecca Silva of Affordable Photographic Services (soon to be Especially For You Photography) capture the wedding of Ryan and Kao Nu. Early Morning Landscapes at Lake Apopka

So last night, someone told me that as they were driving to work at 6:45am they had seen the big full moon setting over Lake Apopka and that is was beautiful. Although I was skeptical of getting any good pictures with the moon being bigger than a dime, I decided some extra motivation to get up early and start the day wouldn't hurt.

So I reluctantly rolled out of bed at 6:30 this morning and headed off with my camera and tripod to capture some early morning landscapes. It was a beautiful morning, the lake was extremely still and reflected all the color's of the sunrise. I have shot down by the lake several times, a few portrait sessions and a sunset, but it was always crowded with people. This morning it was just me and a few birds. I couldn't believe how alive the lake was and all the sights and sounds around me.

I even saw one bird dive into the water and then come up with a small fish impaled on his beak. He then proceeded to swallow it whole!

The day so far has been beautiful and as I was down by the lake this morning, I was reminded of how much beauty surrounds us that we pass by as mundane or are too busy to notice.

Farmer's Market

I woke up around 7:30am Saturday morning - too early on a Saturday so that I could go and sit with my brother David at the Winter Garden Farmer's Market. Our church's youth group has been collecting donations for a summer trip to China to teach English. Several local nurseries have donated plants which the teens are then able to sell at the Farmer's Market and other places. It started out cold, but the sun eventually warmed the day up. Although business was slow, it was fun studying up on the plants and hanging out.

I learned that Coontie palms can either grow in full sun or full shade - I had no idea the plant was so versatile! So I ended up buying several of those to go in my garden project area. For Christmas, Elizabeth bought me an amazing hammock swing and I have taken on the project of landscaping it into a little haven of rest. I do not have a green thumb, so I am keeping my fingers crossed that I do not kill the coontie palms!

Of course, David encouraged me to buy the small cacti to put around my hammock...however, I'm not so sure he had my best interests at heart.

Baby, It's cold out there!

Two weeks ago as I was driving to an early morning meeting, I drove past the most beautiful scene. It was cold (Florida girl cold) outside and I had already spent some time scrapping the ice off my windows and was running a little behind. There was frost on the ground and the sun was just rising over the tops of the trees causing everything to sparkle. There were 4 horses standing close together in the field and the lighting was perfect. I looked at my watch and decided the picture would have to wait.

But I couldn't get the image out of my mind. And as luck would have it, that day warmed up beautifully and the next few days were much too warm and nice for frost. But each night I would ask my Dad when the next time we would have frost again and we'd check the weather to find out. We were supposed to have frost Wednesday night, but even though it got down to 29 degrees the air was too dry for frost. But finally this morning, we had frost. My Dad called on his way to work to let me know the best places. SO I grabbed my coat and camera and headed out into the cold for the sake of photography.

Although the horses or cows did not want to pose for me, I still ended up with some cool shots...maybe better luck next time!

I like how serenely the cows are grazing in the frosty field as the big truck goes past them in the background.

As the sun continued to rise, it cast this beautiful warm glow on the bushes and surrounding area. I think its going to be another beautiful day!

HD 41 - Historic Buildings

I recently completed a fun project of photographing several of the City/Town Halls located in Florida House District 41. I was a little hesitant about the project at first but the think the pictures turned out great in black and white. After getting them framed, they are now hanging in the Tallahassee office of State Representative Steve Precourt. Thanks Kelsey for the great idea!

So far this New Year has already been so wonderful and I am looking forward to a fantastic 2009! January 5th, I met up with 2 of my good friends Becca and LeAnne for a fun photo shoot in downtown Winter Garden and at Lake Apopka before they headed back to college. We had a fun time and got some really beautiful images!

Emily and Patrick are engaged! Monday afternoon I had the privilege of meeting up with Emily and Patrick for some engagement shots. It was a beautiful day and the lake and scenery was fantastic.
